Workshop 3: Music Matters: Finding Your Story and Healing Through Music + The Business Of Music Presented by: Charles Jenkins, National Recording Artist & Stephanie Aguila, VP - Small Business Community Lender, Fifth Third Bank

Storytelling has been linked to trauma healing and it is important to remind each participant just how much they – and their story – matter. When we tell our individual stories, we discover that we are not alone in this world. Isolation is a silent killer, and finding community helps one to stay connected and beat feelings of being alone. This workshop is dedicated to participants writing and sharing their definition / perspective on storytelling.  Participants will have the space to come fully alive - and realize how powerful they are - by scribing their own story in a personal journal that will become a keepsake. This session adopts the storytelling model from artists at Stillwell and will employ the “4 P’s: People, Place, Plot, and Purpose” as a template for the development of one’s story. During the session, participants will witness the story of the presenter/facilitator, Dr. Jenkins, and learn how music saved his life. Additionally, participants will have the chance to share their respective story, if desired. They will also discover how music can accompany them. Attendees will also learn about how to step into the music industry and to build a business & brand. Stephanie Aguilar, VP - Small Business Community Lender at Fifth Third Bank will share tools and resources that are helpful for business owners as part of their commitment to make a difference through community reinvestment and economic development. The session will conclude with the understanding of why music matters in an individual’s life via the development of 2-3 themed musical playlists.

The National Institute on Health has concluded that there are many social determinants of mental health/trauma. Despite the complex layers, it is safe to say that trauma has been a uniting point for individuals of all backgrounds.
